BRUIN FOOTBALL

Hello, I am Coach Rashad Cook. As a former Western Branch football player and alum, I am thrilled to be part of the school community that provided me with the opportunity to pursue my academic and athletic goals at the collegiate level many years ago.

Having enjoyed a successful tenure as a student-athlete at Western Branch and being part of the Golden Season undefeated 1997 Bruins football team, I transitioned to college football at Virginia State University. Subsequently, my focus shifted towards coaching after coaching experiences in Maryland and Northern Virginia, leading me back to my alma mater with great enthusiasm.

The Western Branch Bruins football program boasts a strong tradition of success both on and off the field, with a reputation for excellence in academics and athletics. With a deep-rooted passion for coaching football and teaching, I am excited to continue sharing these passions with the Western Branch community.

I strongly believe that the holistic development of our student-athletes in mental, physical, social, and academic aspects is crucial for the success of our football program. Building a robust athletic program requires collaborative efforts. Combining individual strengths to form a unified team is only achievable with the support of a dedicated Western Branch community.

The longstanding tradition of our football program is exemplified by the continued success of our former student-athletes at the collegiate level, reflecting a culture of victory and tradition. Throughout their academic and athletic careers, many Bruins have excelled, some even reaching the professional ranks. 

Our former Bruins often return to the Bruin football family and community to share their life experiences, achievements, and give back. We take immense pride in the accomplishments of these young men, both past and present.

Looking ahead to the 2024 football season, our staff is excited about the future. The Western Branch Bruins had a remarkable playoff run, featuring in the playoff picture for four consecutive seasons. They secured a 6-A Regional Championship in 2022 and made a 6-A State Semi-Final appearance in the same year, marking the first time in two decades. With a strong 2025 Senior class leading the way, we aim to uphold a standard of success that we can all be proud of. As great leaders and competitors on and off the field, we embody Bruin Pride.
